मैं आपको कुछ पंक्तियों का छोटा सा पत्र लिखा रहा हूँ, क्यूंकि आमतौर पर गरीबी के लिए आपके पास समय नहीं होता है.
भारत के योजना आयोग के बारे में मैंने यह समझा है कि यह संस्थान गरीब और वंचितों की आवाज़ नहीं सुनता है. आयोग गरीबों के आर्थिक वृद्धि के सन्दर्भ में बोझ मानता है. और मैं आपकों आश्वस्त करना चाहता हूँ कि आपके योजना आयोग द्वारा तय की गयी गरीबी की रेखा निश्चित तौर पर हज़ारों हज़ार लोगों को चुपचाप मारती जायेगी.
भूख और भूखे हंगामा नहीं करते. वे मौन के साथ छोटी सी जिन्दगी जीते हैं और चुपचाप मर जाते हैं. उनके इतनी उर्जा हासिल करने ही नहीं दी जाति है जिससे वे अपने पैरों पर खड़े होकर आपके योजना आयोग द्वारा गरीबी के साथ रहने वाले लोगों के साथ किये जा रहे अमानवीय व्यवहार पर आपनी आपत्ति दर्ज करा सकें.
इन सबके बावजूद मैं आपसे एक बार फिर से यह पुनर्विचार करने का अनुरोध करना चाहता हूँ कि आप यह सोचें कि आप लोगों को क्यों भूखे और कुपोषित रखे रखना चाहते हैं! इस नीति के पीछे आपकी क्या भावनाएं और श्रद्धा है? मैं यह ठोस रूप से अब मानता हूँ कि आप समाज और समुदाय को यह तय करने की स्वतंत्रता नहीं देना चाहते हैं कि गरीबी क्या है और गरीब कौन है? ताकि आप अपने सूचकों के जरिये यह बता (झूठे तरीके से) सकें कि भारत सरकार की आर्थिक नीतियों के कारण देश में गरीबी, भुखमरी और वंचितपन कम हुआ है. जबकि सच्चाई आपकी कोशिश के ठीक विपरीत है.
अगर आप मेरी बातों से असहमत हैं तो मैं आपसे आपके ही द्वारा तय की गयी राशि पर ६ माह की जिन्दगी बिताने का निवेदन करता हूँ, ताकि आप सिद्ध करें कि इस राशि में जिन्दा रहना संभव है. यदि आप यह कर सके तो कम से कम मैं तो आपके विचार के साथ खड़ा हो ही जाऊँगा. यदि आप ऐसा नहीं करना चाहते हैं तो कृपया मानवता की खातिर उन लोगों के साथ, उनकी भावनाओं के साथ खिलवाड़ करना बंद कीजिये जो गरीबी और वंचितपन के साथ जी रहे हैं.
आपकी नीतियां मानवता के खिलाफ अपराध हैं.

Dear Shri Montak Singh,
I am writing a very small note, because you have no time for poor usually.
What I have learned about Planning Commission is that, this institution do not hear voices of the poor. As these people are considered to be burden on economic growth. But let me assure you that Poverty Line prescribed by Planning Commission will certainly kill hundreds of thousands of people silently.
Hunger and Hungry do not make noise. They live short life silently and die with silence. They are left with no energy to express their own concerns over what India's Planning Commission is doing with them.
I would, anyway, like to request you to think over it again that why you want people to keep Hungary and Malnourished!! What is your feeling and belief behind this? I am of firm understanding that you just don't want society to decide what is poverty and who is poor. You want to decide at your level because you want to justify, wrongly, that economic growth policies have contributed in decreasing poverty, hunger and vulnerability in India. Whereas the truth is just opposite to your efforts.
If you don't agree with me, I would request you to live on this amount for six months and show that survival is possible on this expenditure, if you can do so, at least I would join your concept. Otherwise for the sake of humanity please don't play with the vulnerability of people living with hunger and poverty.
